Benefits of Getting Organized

Getting organized is consistently one of the top 5 New Year’s resolutions, so it comes as no surprise January has been declared National Get Organized Month. What better time than the fresh start of the new year to get started? You don’t necessarily have to jump on the resolution bandwagon, but there are a lot of benefits of getting organized you should know about. We’ve outlined some of the top benefits of getting organized here:

Less Stress

Poor organizational habits create stress. Messy homes, misplacing items, being late and missing appointments are all huge contributors to stress that stem from disorganization. When you live an organized life, you rid yourself of unnecessary stressors.

More Time

According to Real Simple Magazine, American women spend 55.2 minutes a day looking for lost or misplaced items. That’s approximately 14 wasted days a year thanks to disorganization. When you’re organized, you find things quickly and easily because everything is in its rightful place. Imagine what you could do with an extra 14 days each year!

Being organized also fosters efficiency and productivity. An organized person is more efficient and has more time to focus on the task at hand than a person who has to take extra time gathering their thoughts and scattered materials.

The National Soap and Detergent Association says 80% of household clutter is the result of disorganization, not lack of space. When you get organized and designate a place for items in your home and office, you’ll find you actually have more free space than you thought. Another desirable benefit of getting organized is the money you save. When you’re organized, you make fewer trips to the grocery store and know what food you already have, avoiding the purchase of duplicate items. Being organized allows you to plan ahead, avoiding last minute meals out and last minute rushed purchases where you are more likely to spend whatever amount, if it means you get what you need right that second.  You will also save money and avoid late fees by keeping bills organized.
